Amid chanting of Vedic hymns, thousands of pilgrims took a ritual bath in the Sarovar lake here today as the famous annual Pushkar Mela began on a guarded note of Kartik 'Ekadashi'.
A ritual march was taken out in the morning of Kartik `Ekadashi` (11th day of the new moon, passing through famous Brahma temple add various temples and culminating at the Pushkar ghats.
A major attraction of the annual mela is the cattle fair where more than 22,000 heads of lifestock, including cattle horses and camels have come.
Hundreds of people from rural areas with handicrafts are participating in the craft exhibition organised by the Rajasthan Tourism Department.
A tourist villages has come up, equipped with modern facilities and accommodation, for about 1,000 people.
